In the forerun of the G20 summit in Saint Petersburg, the European Commission published a paper with interesting facts and figures putting the EU into context of the G20’s economies.
The accompanying graphs visualize some of these figures quite needly such as the EU27’s main export and import partners or its share in the world’s population. Nevertheless, it would have been interesting to put into a future perpective, i.e. that both the population and trade share of the EU are more than likely to drop.
In the paper, President Barroso and Van Rompuy further stress out three main goals the European Commission wants to push forward: growth & employment, fight against tax avoidance and evasion, and the reform of the international financial architecture. Being highly intertwined, we can only hope that the G20 will manage to agree on some concrete actions on either of these subjects. Good luck!
