They have been quite popular recently: Images of the earth by night. And indeed, the earth’s light that can be seen from the space is impressive. But even more so is its dispersion which makes us think of maps indicating the nations’ material wealth.
No-one will be surprised to notice that it is dispersed unequally not only between, but also within continents…
or even metropolitan areas.
Quite a remarkable case, however, is Berlin: Nearly 25 years after the fall of the Berlin wall, the difference in types of light bulbs used on either side of the former wall can still be seen from space.
